In a nut shell, phone activated prior to 11/2021 became available for unlocking after 12 months of paid service. The unlocking is fully automatic with iPhones, but my understanding is you must manually enter the unlock code into Android phones. I don’t know of any way to check the unlock status on Android phones, but on iPhones you can simply look under Settings-General-About-CarrierLock and it will either say Carrier Locked (if locked), No Sim Restrictions (if unlocked), or "invalid sim" if carrier locked and another carriers sim is inserted). Actually it used to be 12 months of active service but is now 60 days from initial activation without need to maintain active service (can activate a single 30 day plan, let it expire, and wait out the second 30 days to reach the 60th day to qualify for unlocking).
